Membership and Validity

Within AIRJ, there are two types of membership:

  • Junior: Annual membership fee of 2,000 yen. This category includes students, post-doctoral researchers, or scholarship recipients.
  • Senior: Annual membership fee of 5,000 yen. This category includes all other positions not mentioned above, such as professors, associate professors, assistants, researchers at private institutions or government agencies, employees in the private sector, etc.

In order to be inclusive, we do not apply strict distinctions between categories and prefer that members decide for themselves. In principle, the annual fee of 5,000 yen allows us to carry out all activities and cover the association’s operating costs (website, maintenance of a legal office, banking fees, etc.). The reduced fee of 2,000 yen is designed for students and individuals with limited financial resources who still wish to be part of the association.

For legal reasons, voting rights are tied to the calendar year and are therefore valid only until December 31 of the year in which the membership or renewal was completed. However, to allow those who join at the end of the year to benefit from the association’s services, we extend access to events, inclusion in the mailing list, and all other services until June 30 of the following year.

Example: Membership/fee payment made on September 17, 1955 (the same applies if the payment was made on March 17, 1955, for instance).

  • Voting rights are valid until December 31, 1955 (the annual meeting is usually held in late summer).
  • Access to events and mailing list is granted until June 30, 1956. If renewal is not completed beyond this date, all membership benefits will be lost.
